Seven ingredients, one capsule, every amount on the label. Here is what each GLP5 GLT ingredient is, where it comes from and how much is in a capsule.
Reading a supplement label is worth the two minutes it takes. This guide goes through the GLP5 GLT ingredients one at a time, in the order a label would list them. For the product in short, you can also visit the GLP5 GLT home page.
What is in GLP5 GLT?
A single capsule holds seven active ingredients. These figures are from the manufacturer's ingredient page, and if anything on the pack in your hand differs, go with the pack.
| Ingredient | Form | Per capsule | % NRV |
|---|---|---|---|
| L-arginine | Hydrochloride (HCl) | 100 mg | No NRV set |
| Apple cider vinegar | Extract | 100 mg | No NRV set |
| Guarana | Extract (Paullinia cupana) | 100 mg | No NRV set |
| L-glutamine | Amino acid | 50 mg | No NRV set |
| L-leucine | Amino acid | 50 mg | No NRV set |
| Zinc | Citrate | 15 mg | 150% |
| Chromium | Picolinate | 40 µg | 100% |
NRV is the nutrient reference value used on UK and Irish labels. Only vitamins and minerals have one, so five of the seven rows show none. Notice the units too: milligrams (mg) for most, but micrograms (µg) for chromium. A microgram is a thousandth of a milligram, which is normal for a trace mineral.
What is L-arginine hydrochloride?
L-arginine is an amino acid, one of the building blocks of protein. You eat it every day without thinking about it: it is in chicken, turkey, fish, dairy, eggs, nuts and seeds. In GLP5 GLT it is used as the hydrochloride salt, a stable form common in supplements. Each capsule contains 100 mg.
What is apple cider vinegar extract?
Apple cider vinegar is made when apples are crushed and fermented. Most of us know it from a bottle in the kitchen cupboard, next to the malt vinegar for the chips. An extract is a concentrated, dry version, and that is what makes a capsule possible: no sharp taste, no teaspoon, no diluting. GLP5 GLT contains 100 mg per capsule. Our page on apple cider vinegar capsules goes into more detail.
What is guarana extract?
Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a climbing plant from the Amazon. The seeds are dried and processed into an extract. They naturally contain caffeine, though the label does not give a caffeine amount. Each GLP5 GLT capsule has 100 mg of guarana extract.
A practical tip: add up your caffeine for the day. A builder's tea, a morning coffee and a can of cola all count. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may prefer to take the capsule with lunch rather than a late dinner.
What are L-glutamine and L-leucine?
Both are amino acids that come from protein foods.
- L-glutamine (50 mg) is found in meat, fish, eggs, dairy and some plant foods such as beans and tofu.
- L-leucine (50 mg) is one of the amino acids the body cannot make itself, so it has to arrive through food: eggs, dairy, meat, fish and pulses are good sources.
These two, plus L-arginine, are compared side by side in our amino acids guide.

One capsule delivers 15 mg of zinc as zinc citrate, which is 150% of the nutrient reference value (the reference value for zinc is 10 mg). Zinc is an essential mineral. Natural sources include red meat, shellfish (Irish oysters are a famously rich one), dairy, wholegrain bread and pumpkin seeds.
The authorised statements for zinc are:
- Zinc contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism.
- Zinc contributes to normal carbohydrate metabolism.
- Zinc contributes to normal fatty acid metabolism.
- Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
- Zinc contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
How much chromium is in GLP5 GLT?
Each capsule has 40 µg of chromium as chromium picolinate, exactly 100% of the nutrient reference value. Chromium is a trace mineral: the body needs very little. Foods that contain it include broccoli, wholegrain cereals, potatoes and some meats.
Two authorised statements apply:
- Chromium contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism.
- Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.
More on both minerals, including food sources and how they add up across your day, is in the zinc and chromium guide.
What are the other ingredients?
Alongside the seven actives, the capsule contains a few helpers:
- HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) is the plant-based capsule shell.
- Microcrystalline cellulose is a filler made from plant fibre.
- E470b is an anti-caking agent that stops the powder clumping.
Which ingredients carry health statements?
Only two: zinc and chromium. For L-arginine, apple cider vinegar, guarana, L-glutamine and L-leucine, this site simply describes what they are and where they come from. That is the honest way to read the label, and it keeps the facts separate from the marketing.
How do the ingredients compare with what you eat anyway?
It helps to see the capsule against an ordinary plate of food, because most of these ingredients are not exotic. Chicken, eggs, cheese, nuts and fish supply the amino acids. A portion of beef, a bowl of oats or a few pumpkin seeds supply zinc. Broccoli and wholegrain bread supply a little chromium. Apple cider vinegar is already on the shelf next to the salad dressing, and guarana is the one plant extract that most people eat rarely, if at all.
That is why a food supplement of this kind is described as complementing the diet. It does not stand in for lunch, and the amounts per capsule are modest next to a full day of eating. The point of the label is to show you exactly what you are adding, no more and no less.
How do you read the % NRV column?
The percentage tells you how one capsule compares with the reference value for an average adult. 100% means the capsule alone gives you the whole reference amount of chromium. 150% for zinc means one and a half times the reference amount, from the capsule alone, before anything you eat. Add your food and any other supplement, and your total can be higher still, which is exactly why it is wise to check the labels of everything you take.
Are there any allergens or things to check?
Read the pack for the current allergen information. Three points are worth keeping in mind:
- Caffeine: from guarana. Count your other sources.
- Zinc: if you take other supplements with zinc, add the amounts together and stay within the amounts on each pack.
- Medication: if you take any, especially for blood sugar, ask your GP or pharmacist first. See safety and suitability.
